United Against Malnutrition: What It Means and Why It Matters

InfuCare Rx is a proud ambassador of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN). We are committed to raising awareness and advancing the standard of care for those at risk of or experiencing malnutrition. Join us September 8-12 in celebrating Malnutrition Awareness Week™ (MAW), to educate individuals about the identification, intervention, and treatment of malnutrition.

Malnutrition Remains Underdiagnosed

Despite being common, malnutrition is often overlooked, especially in outpatient and home-based care settings. It can affect individuals of all ages and body sizes — from children with chronic conditions to adults with gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, or age-related decline.

In many cases, signs such as intentional weight loss, muscle weakness, fatigue, poor wound healing, or gastrointestinal symptoms go unnoticed or can be attributed to underlying illnesses rather than nutritional deficiencies.

Left untreated, malnutrition can lead to longer recovery times, increased hospitalizations, and reduced quality of life.

“United” Means Collaboration

The theme “United Against Malnutrition” speaks directly to what effective nutrition support looks like: a collaborative approach. At InfuCare Rx, our clinical pharmacists, dietitians, nurses, and support teams work closely with prescribing providers to:

  • Identify risk factors early using validated screening tools
  • Tailor nutrition therapies — including parenteral nutrition — to meet individual needs
  • Monitor progress and adjust care plans based on real-time clinical data
  • Educate patients and families on how to support nutrition goals at home

Together with our partners across the healthcare continuum, we help close the gap between diagnosis and action — ensuring nutrition becomes a standard part of care, not an afterthought.

Our Role as ASPEN Ambassadors

Being part of ASPEN’s Ambassador Program allows us to extend our impact beyond daily care. We believe awareness starts with conversation and continues through consistent action.

Whether you are a healthcare provider, caregiver, or simply someone who cares, here are three easy ways to take a stand against malnutrition:

  1. Learn the Signs. Visit ASPEN’s resources to understand risk factors and how to help.
  1. Share the Message. Use #UnitedAgainstMalnutrition to amplify awareness during Malnutrition Awareness Week.
  1. Connect with Experts. If you work with patients who may benefit from nutrition support, we’re here to help.

Malnutrition doesn’t have to be part of anyone’s story, especially when early recognition and expert care can prevent it. This week, and every week, InfuCare Rx is proud to stand united in this mission. Contact us to learn more about our nutrition support program for high-risk, malnourished patients. Our expert team of pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians is available to answer questions regarding getting your patient enrolled in our nutrition support program today. It takes a team.
